Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS) was established with the establishment of UNISSA in January 2007, to become an academic centre of excellence in postgraduate studies and research particularly in areas which are fundamental to national development as inspired in UNISSA’s mission: “To be an international university which offers various programmes of study, research and human development using holistic methods and up-to-date technology in accordance with global development in order to produce pious, high spirited and valuable graduates as well as to contribute to the development of the community and the country.” The Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS) recognises the importance of education and research particularly in areas which are fundamental to national development. Its vision is to achieve academic centre of excellence for higher education and research in various disciplines of studies and is committed towards achieving UNISSA’s vision as a progressive and dynamic International Islamic University based on Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah At present, UNISSA has e over 100 postgraduate students from different countries in the world among which come from Indonesia, Malaysia, Tanzania, Bosnia Herzegovina and others. These students are not only equipped with current state of art facilities but also assisted by professional and diligent academician from over the world among which Malaysia, Sudan, Indonesia, Egypt, Oman, Australia and Pakistan.

Mission Towards an academic center of excellence for higher education and research.
Vision CPS aims to become an academic centre of excellence in higher education and research in various disciplines of studies, and is committed towards achieving UNISSA vision as a progressive and dynamic International Islamic University based on Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah.
To provide a wide range of postgraduate programmers from Postgraduate diploma and Master degree to PhD;
To plan and coordinate matters pertaining to student admission and monitor the record progress of all postgraduate students;
To plan and initiate academic activities in order to upgrade the quality of programmes at UNISSA such as collaboration between higher institutions in Brunei and elsewhere; and
To contribute towards the enhancement of knowledge by integrating Islamic knowledge and values with acquired knowledge of pure science and human sciences.
Faculty of Shariah and Law Entry Requirements
Applicant applying for admission to the Bachelor of Shariah programmes must have passed
1- Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) with "Jayyid"; or
2- 160 points in two (2) 'A' Level Arabic Medium subjects at the minimum of D grade; or 3- 200 points in three (3) 'A' Level Arabic Medium subjects at the minimum of D grade.
Applicant for Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) & Bachelor of Shariah law (BSL) double-degree programme must have the following qualifications
1- Brunei-Cambridge GCE A Level or its equivalent with at least a minimum points of 160 in 2 subjects, or 200 points; in 3 subjects; and the subjects should be at the minimum grade D; or
2- The International Baccalaureate (IB) Examination with a minimum score of 28 points.
Applicant should also pass General Paper (GP) subject with at least grade B in Brunei-Cambridge GCE a Level. The University may consider any other subject, e.g. Geography or History with at least grade C, taken by the candidate at the same examination, in lieu of the GP.
Applicant should also have obtained at least a credit 6 both in Mathematics and in English Language at Brunei Cambridge GCE O; Level or a grade C in IGCSE English or an IELTS score of 6.0, or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550. Obtained Sijil Peperiksaan Sekolah Rendah Ugama or its equivalent.
Grade A = 120 points
Grade B = 100 points
Grade C = 80 points
Grade D = 60 points
Applicant must have obtained a First Degree with at least a Second Class Honours or Jayyid; in the relevant discipline; or have obtained a First Degree in the relevant disciplines and has not less than three (3) years working experience in the related fields.
Applicant applying for admission to Arabic-medium degree programmes will be required to sit and pass an Arabic Language test.
Applicant applying for admission to English-medium master programmes should have passed:
1- the Primary School Religious Examination certificate.
2- At least a credit 6 both in Mathematics and in English Language at Brunei Cambridge GCE O; Level or a grade C in IGCSE English or an IELTS score of 6.0, or TOEFL minimum overall score of 550.
3- an Al-Quran recitation test.
a) Applicant must have obtained relevant Master's degree from institutions recognised by the University Senate.
b) Applicant who obtained the relevant First Degree with First Class Honours may be considered.
Applicant must have:
1- the Primary School Religious Examination certificate.
2- A degree in Shariah or Law (LLB) from any university or institution recognized by the University Senate;
3- Other first degree qualifications recognized by the University Senate, has work experience as a legal practitioner or in related areas for at least three (3) years, and has been recommended by the Head of Department where the applicant is working, may be considered
Applicants are required to sit and pass an Al-Quran recitation test.

Bachelor of Shariah (Fiqh And Judiciary)
This program aims at preparing its participants for a career in Islamic judiciary and other related professions such as administrative officers and practitioners of the shariah courts. The students of this program will thoroughly study Law of Evidence in shariah court, civil procedure in shariah court, criminal procedure in shariah court, Islamic Family Law etc. This program will equip its participants with the knowledge of fundamentals of fiqh and usul enabling them thereby to perform well in related vocations and attain research skills.Graduates of this program are eligible to do legal practice in the shariah courts only.
Bachelor of Shariah (Fiqh And Usul)
This program aims at preparing its participants for the study of Islamic Jurisprudence and its principles. On completion of the program, the participants will have sound foundation in Ifta, religious monitoring and supervision, religious consultancy, teaching, mentoring and Imamah. Additionally, the graduates of this program will be equipped with the basic research skills in order to prepare them for any postgraduate studies and/or research oriented career.
Full time basis: Min 4 years, Max 5 years

Special courses: Bachelor of Shariah (Fiqh and Judiciary)
2 work attachment courses: one after the 6th semester and another in the 8th semester, are required. The faculty will coordinate these courses with the prospective community departments.
A 6-credit hours Academic Exercise course are required from students who have obtained 3.00 CGPA and above.
Diploma of Islamic Law and Practice
This program is mainly targeting those who are in legal services and practice. After completing this program, graduates will be certified and authorised to appear and practise before the Shariah courts in the country. The program consists of 12 courses (36 credit hours) which are spread two years (four regular semesters). A project paper along with a field report (Attachment) is required in the final semester of the program. The timetable of this program for each semester is accordingly structured to suit the convenience of part-time participants. Although the Malay language is used as the medium of instruction for this program, students are, however, allowed to participate in lectures and answer their exams in English.
