In line with the University’s vision and mission statements, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finance seeks to offer students the opportunity of integrating knowledge of conventional business management with Islamic knowledge and values. The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences was established in 1428H/2007M with the establishment of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.

Strive to become a center of Islamic academic excellence in the fields of economics, business, management and Finance.
MISSION
Produce and broaden Islamic knowledge and also enhancing students’ skills in accordance with current needs in the fields of economics, business, management and finance. Inculcating Islamic values through quality learning and education, contemporary research studies, credible academicians, effective and efficient management and also conducive environment.
OBJECTIVES
- Produce professional, competent, knowledgeable and expert scholars in their specialized areas.
- Produce Muslims scholars who are full of charisma, wisdom and vision in maintaining the growth of our religion, nation and country ethically.
- Provide dynamic, creative, skillful, discipline human resources and effectively function as required by the state, whether in public and private sectors or entrepreneurship
- Produce leaders who can be entrusted by the state to lead societies in accordance with Islamic principles and teachings.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
FOR
BACHELOR DEGREE AND HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
UNIVERSITI ISLAM SULTAN SHARIF ALI
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for admission to the programmes offered. To be considered for admission, applicants must satisfy the general entry requirements and specific entry requirements as set for each programme.
Applicants must note that fulfilling the general entry requirements and specific entry requirements does not guarantee entry into UNISSA’s programmes as admission to all programmes is competitive and limited subject to availability of spaces.
GENERAL NOTES
- Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali reserves the right to reject applications which are incomplete, received after the closing date or containing false information.
- Only shortlisted / successful candidates will be contacted.
- Only qualifications from a University / Institution / Examination Board recognised by the University Senate will be considered.
- For entry to first degree programmes only Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) and Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level qualifications or equivalent qualifications obtained in not more than 3 sittingswill be considered.
- Applicants with other equivalent qualification such as Higher National Diploma (HND) may be considered subject to fulfilling the entry requirement set by the programme they have applied for.
- General Paper and English as a Second Language will not be considered as Advanced Level subjects.
- The London GCE ‘O’ Level Malay will not be considered.
- Applicants who do not meet the normal entry requirements may be consideredfor admission to first degree programmes as mature applicants subject to the requirements set by the University as set out below.
- Applicants must satisfy other requirements as set by faculties in Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali from time to time.
- Required to go through prescribed medical fitness examination and must be certified as fit to join the programme.
- If deemed necessary, applicants may also be required to attend an interview conducted by the relevant faculty.

- Points will be allocated to ‘A’ Level grades according to the following scheme, which is based on that used by the University Colleges Admission Services (UCAS), United Kingdom. Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level qualifications are not awarded points in the UNISSA scheme and are not taken into account when determining acceptable qualifications for entry to UNISSA.
- For English Medium programmes, applicants must have at least a credit 6in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 0 or a TOEFL minimum overall score of 550.
- Passed Primary School Religious Certificate (Sijil Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah Ugama Brunei) examination or its equivalent including Penilaian Sekolah Rendah Certificate examination for applicants from Institut Tahfiz al-Qur’an Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) and Arabic Schools, or equivalent qualifications recognised by University Senate.
- Pass al-Qur’an al-Karim recitation test conducted by the University.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ISLAMIC FINANCE
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
English Proficiency
At least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL (PBT) minimum overall score of 550 or TOEFL (IBT) minimum overall score of 600 or equivalent.
‘A’ Level or STPUB Qualification or its equivalent
A minimum of 160 points for two (2) ‘A’ Level relevant subjects or 200 for (3) relevant subjects preferably Shariah not exceeding three (3) years of last examination with a minimum grade D;
or
Passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) examination or its equivalent with an average grade ‘Jayyid’.
Mathematics GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent
At least a credit 6 in Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level or IGCSE examination or any statistics or mathematics course passed with ‘Merit’ and above at HND level may be considered in lieu of the GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics for those who have only acquired pass (D7 or E8).
International Baccalaureate
A minimum score of 24 points including a minimum of 5 points each in at least two relevant subjects (including mathematics) taken at higher level, or 5,5,4 for 3 relevant subjects (including mathematics) taken at higher level.
Diploma Qualification
A Higher National Diploma (HND) / Foundation Degree / Advanced Diploma Qualification or equivalent from institutions recognised by the University Senate who have obtained at least ‘Merit’ passes in 5 subjects relevant to the degree programme to which admission is being sought may be considered.
Mature Applicants
At least three (3) years of working experience in related fields with 1 ‘A’ Level or at least five (5) years with 4 ‘O’ Levels in any relevant subject. Applicants may sit for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) conducted by the faculty.

Bachelor of Science in Islamic Finance
This program is designed to provide students with a specialist knowledge set and skills that arise out of combining the sciences of conventional and Islamic finance and banking. It gives an in-depth study of Islamic banking and finance both locally and globally including takaful, management, and issues related to Islamic economics management. A graduate with this degree will be equipped for most any job within banking industry and financial organizations.

Full time basis : 4 years

The program provides a strong core curriculum providing students a strong foundation of knowledge applicable to any business career. The job prospect may include: Assistant managers, operations executives, evaluators, investment analysts, financial analysts, Islamic banking executives, corporate finance executives, retailing executives and other executives in both public and private sectors.
Bachelor of Business Management
This program provides a strong core curriculum providing students a strong foundation of knowledge applicable to any business career. Students graduating with this program have broad career prospects in the following fields: Islamic finance, management, marketing, international business, information systems management, public administration, small business entrepreneurship, takaful industry, banks and other financial institutions. It is designed to offer a broad-based program of business and management sciences together with the necessary technical skills and Islamic values.

Full time basis : 4 years
Areas of Specialization:
This program allows students to embark on careers in different areas of specialization. Students may choose to specialize in the 3rd-4th year in one of the following areas as follows:
1. Entrepreneurship: Specialization in entrepreneurship provides an in-depth understanding and appreciation of new venture operations including entrepreneurial ventures in small business, and entrepreneurial ventures and activities within business organizations.
2. International Business: Specialization in international business provides students with the knowledge and understanding required to deal effectively with the complexities of contemporary global business environments, both multinational and multicultural.
3. Information Systems Management: Courses in this specialization are provided students with the skills needed to successfully participate in and support the increasingly visible role of information technology in corporate decision making.

The Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finances offers a full-time programme by research leading to the degree of Master in Islamic Banking and Finance (MIBF). This cutting-edge coursework Master's program is built around a defined body of knowledge of proven relevance to the Islamic banking and finance industry.The core curriculum of this program provides students with a sophisticated framework for a deep understanding of Banking and Finance and offers them the dynamics of Islamic finance as practiced today.
