Abouts Us

The Faculty of Usuluddin is one of the four faculties under the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.Established on 11th Zulhijjah 1427H / 1st January 2007 with approval of His Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan of the kingdom of Brunei Darussalam. The teaching in this faculty commenced from the beginning of the first academic session 2007-2008. It undertakes the academic programmers in two stages: The first-degree programme (Bachelor) and The higher degree Programmes of Master and Ph.D.

 

Vision

To become a distinguished centre of knowledge, belief system and faith, based on the Holy Qur’an, the prophetic traditions and the principles of Ahlu al-Sunnah wal-jama’ah.

Mission

To introduce authentic academic programmes and produce highly qualified graduatets from a variety of disiplines to serve Islam and the Muslim community in Brunei Darussalam and the Muslim world.

Objective

  • Protection of Islamic faith and its sources and to defend it against deviational trends and inclinations.
  • Preserving Islamic heritage and working for its propagation in and outside Brunei.
  • Producing open-minded intelligent and able specialists in disciplines of Usuluddin combining traditional and modern knowledge equipped with ICT who can defend Islamic values and
    against destructive ideas with proofs and arguments and opposing all alien views.
  • Striving for increasing the number of scholars (Ulama’) combining knowledge (ilm) with action (amal) and faith (al-aqidah) with practice (Suluk) in Brunei society in particular and
    other Islamic societies in general.
  • Producing Muslim Preachers having understanding of the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet and are knowledgeable in contemporary sciences and varying resources.

Programmes Offered

FACULTY OF USULUDDIN

Faculty of Usuluddin offers a number of courses related with al-Quran, Hadith, ‘Aqidah, Da’wah and Qiraat. The courses are taught by highly qualified local and international academic staff with distinctive qualifications and specialisations in the mentioned areas

Entry Requirements:

STPUB Qualification or its equivalent

Have passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) with an average grade 'Jayyid';

or

Have Passed Barnamij Tarqiyah programme offered by UNISSA with a minimum CGPA 3.00;

or

Have Passed Higher National Diploma in al-Dirasaat al-Islamiyyah (minimum CGPA 3.00 may be considered for direct entrance to second (2nd) year in any Arabic- medium programme).


Language Requirement

Applicants must have at least a score of Band 6.0 in International Arabic Language Testing System (IALTS)

or

Have Passed Arabic Placement Test (APT)


Hafaz

Applicants applying to Bachelor of Tahfiz and Qira’at programme must passed Hafaz al-Qur'an at least 15 Juzuk certified by the University.


Diploma of 'Aaliyah Qiraat

Applicants who have passed Diploma 'Aliyah Qira'at with a minimum CGPA 3.00 or its equivalent may be considered for a direct entrance to second (2nd) year Bachelor of Tahfiz and Qira'at programme.

• A research proposal outlining the scope of work by independent research should be submitted. The proposal should include, but not be confined to: Introduction to the research topic; Research aims and objectives, including any working hypotheses if applicable; Literature review; Methodology, including any data requirements; Resource requirements, and; Timetable of work (Gantt Chart). The research proposal should be approximately 1,000 - 1,500 words in length.

SPECIAL COURSES

Work attachment courses are required for Bachelor of Usuluddin students in the 6th semester. The faculty will coordinate these courses with the prospective community departments.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

FOR

BACHELOR DEGREE AND HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

UNIVERSITI ISLAM SULTAN SHARIF ALI

 

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for admission to the programmes offered. To be considered for admission, applicants must satisfy the general entry requirements and specific entry requirements as set for each programme.

Applicants must note that fulfilling the general entry requirements and specific entry requirements does not guarantee entry into UNISSA’s programmes as admission to all programmes is competitive and limited subject to availability of spaces.

 

GENERAL NOTES

 

  • Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali reserves the right to reject applications which are incomplete, received after the closing date or containing false information.
  • Only shortlisted / successful candidates will be contacted.
  • Only qualifications from a University / Institution / Examination Board recognised by the University Senate will be considered.
  • For entry to first degree programmes only Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) and Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level qualifications or equivalent qualifications obtained in not more than 3 sittings will be considered.
  • Applicants with other equivalent qualification such as Higher National Diploma (HND) may be considered subject to fulfilling the entry requirement set by the programme they have applied for.
  • General Paper and English as a Second Language will not be considered as Advanced Level subjects.
  • The London GCE ‘O’ Level Malay will not be considered.
  • Applicants who do not meet the normal entry requirements may be consideredfor admission to first degree programmes as mature applicants subject to the requirements set by the University as set out below.
  • Applicants must satisfy other requirements as set by faculties in Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali from time to time.
  • Required to go through prescribed medical fitness examination and must be certified as fit to join the programme.
  • If deemed necessary, applicants may also be required to attend an interview conducted by the relevant faculty.
