UNISSA hosts Mazhab Shafi’e Application workshop

UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through its Mazhab Shafi’e Research Centre (MSRC) and Leadership and Lifelong Learning Centre (LLLC) and in co-operation with the Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kampong Jerudong yesterday organised its first Mazhab Shafi’e Application Workshop focussing on the ‘Tayammum’ Fiqh practical.
Entitled ‘Tayammum’, the workshop was presented by UNISSA MSRC research fellow, Dr Nurol Huda binti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama (Dr) Haji Ismail as the facilitator, and accompanied by Master and Doctor of Philosophy students of MSRC.
An unexpected number of 45 participants comprising the public, converts, and the mosque Takmir committee took part in the workshop.
Meanwhile, another workshop titled ‘Zakat Calculation’, will be presented by Dr Haji Abdurrahman Raden Aji Haqqi, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Syariah and Law; and Imam Haji Burhanuddin bin Haji Damit, the Imam of the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque in Kampong Kulapis; as well as Norhidah binti Haji Alias from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
UNISSA plays an active role to provide community services, especially in matters relating to the Islamic religion as well as provide space for the Muslim community in the country to study and increase the knowledge of Fiqh, especially in the basic knowledge of Mazhab Shafi’e in the practical perspective.
Among the objectives of the workshop were to raise awareness within the Muslim society on fiqh issues and ways to embrace the experience, along with highlighting the roles of the MSRC in spreading the teachings of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah specifically in the Mazhab Shafi’e to the general public, and the main role of the LLLC in coordinating programmes and courses offered to the public, in line with the concept of duty for all Muslims in Brunei Darussalam to seek knowledge.
