UNISSA reappointed AIUA treasurer
UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) recently attended the sixth biennial general meeting of the Asian Islamic Universities Association (AIUA) at Grand Dafam Bela Ternate, Ternate City and hosted by the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Ternate, North Muluku, Indonesia, according to a press release.
Attending the meeting on behalf of UNISSA’s Rector was Dr Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Deputy Rector of UNISSA.
The sixth AIUA meeting was conducted with the biennial general meeting to elect and appoint the new president and members of the AIUA executive committee. At the meeting, UNISSA has been entrusted to be reappointed as AIUA treasurer for two years from 2017 to 2019.
The meeting also witnessed the appointment of AIUA’s new President, Professor Dr KH Yudian Wahyudi, Rector of the Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga (UIN SUKA), Yogyakarta to replace AIUA’s first president, Professor Munzir Hitami, Rector of Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim (UIN SUSKA) Riau; Dr Mizan Aslam, Rector of Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs), Malaysia was appointed as AIUA Vice President; Tan Sri Professor Dr Nordin Kardi, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), Malaysia as AIUA Secretary General. While three institutions of higher learning consisted of IAIN Ternate, North Muluku, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel (UIN SA) of Surabaya and Fatoni University, Thailand has been appointed as executive committee members of AIUA.

AIUA was founded in April 2015 and aims to assist member institutions to empower themselves through mutual cooperation and achieve international excellence in education, research and public service using holistic Islamic approaches.
To date, AIUA’s members have reached more than 70 higher education institutions from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Thailand.
