VACANCIES: Professor (PT5/PT5A), Senior Assistant Professor (PT3)

As Brunei Darussalam’s Premier Islamic University, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA) invites suitably qualified candidates to join us for the applications of academic posts with salary and fringe benefits as below. The appointment will be on a permanent basis for citizens of Brunei Darussalam. For non-citizens, appointment will be by contract for a period of three years which is renewable subject to mutual agreement.

 

Academic allowance is as follows:-

Professor                                  :           BND800.00 per month

Senior Assistant Professor           :          BND300.00 per month

 

Bonus payment after each 12 months of satisfactory service: –

½ month salary for Senior Assistant Professor
½ month salary for Professor

 

Gratuity payment: –

25% of last drawn basic monthly salary x 36 months
Payable at the end of the contract

No personal income tax scheme in Brunei Darussalam on income earned.

 

Other benefits: –

  • Education allowance is available for children from the age of 5 to 21. The amount depends on if the child is studying in Brunei Darussalam or overseas. For children in schools outside of Brunei Darussalam, the education allowance is based on the amount claimed but not exceeding BND800 per month for each child. This rate includes claim for accommodation. However, if the fees do not include accommodation, it will be based on the amount claimed but not exceeding BND400 per month for each child. The education allowance claim is for up to 4 children (up to 2 or Concession passage). If a child receives other assistance towards his education (e.g. scholarship, grant or maintenance allowance), the amount of education allowance payable will be reduced. For example, if the education allowance claimed is BND400, owing to the other assistance amounting to BND300, the Government will only pay BND100.
  • Children concession passage is for up to 2 children only with the condition that they receive education allowance under the category of ‘student staying at boarding school outside Brunei. The return passage is between the place of domicile to Brunei for each calendar year of service.
  • Subsidised housing rental of minimum payable rental of BND130 per month. Staff may opt to stay at a furnished rented house (normally up to 5 bedrooms) or apartment.

 

 

 

  • Interest-free car loan of BND15,000.00 Payable within the contract period.
  • Free medical service at Government hospitals and health centres for contract officer, spouse and children only.
  • Annual leave of 48 days per year.
  • Travel passages at the beginning, middle and end of the contract (homeward).
  • Baggage allowance The Government will reimburse the cost of excess accompanied baggage for Government-paid for incoming and homeward-bound passages for the contract staff, spouse and up to 4 children under the age of 18 years old. The amount is 20kg for the officer, spouse and each child between the age of 12 and 17 years old, and 10kg for each child under the age of 12 years old.
  • Sea freight charges On the first appointment, the officer may claim on arrival in Brunei the cost of transporting personal effects by sea freight for himself, spouse and up to 4 children under the age of 18 years old, for the nearest port in the country of domicile to any port in Brunei. The amount is 1.2mfor the contract staff, spouse and each child between the age of 12 and 17 years old, and 0.6mfor each child under the age of 12 years old. Upon final completion of a contract, the officer will be eligible for the transportation of personal effects for the whole family from any port in Brunei to the nearest post in the country of domicile, of the amount up to 4.5m3.
  • Home-to-office or fixed conveyance allowance The home-to-office conveyance allowance payable depends on the distance from home to the office. The minimum rate is BND29 per month and maximum rate is BND58 per month. The fixed conveyance allowance is BND46 per month for Senior Assistant Professor and Professor.

FOR PT5 SALARY

Applicants must have Ph.D degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a university or higher institution recognized by the government and leading and renowned universities or higher institutions as an advantage. Preferably with specializing in a relevant field research practice experience and having experience teaching in tertiary level. Has served in the position of Associate Professor for not less than three (3) years or has served in the post of Professor in an appropriate period of time and active in teaching, research, academic publications, contributions in refereed journals, administration, supervision of Master and/or Doctorate Thesis level, service to the community and had passed the evaluation made by the internal and external panel for this post.

 

Has an international reputation through the production of academic writings published in refereed journals or contributed chapters in academic books and has produced and published numerous academic books and has received recognition and quality of citations among international academia as presenters of papers and particularly in the area of specialization. Meeting the evaluation of the professional performance based on Research and Publications, Teaching and Supervision, Service to the Community and Clinical and Professional. Has the ability to continuously pursuing research activity in any tertiary level institutions.

 

FOR PT5A SALARY

Applicants must have Ph.D degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a university or higher institution recognized by the government and leading and renowned universities or higher institutions as an advantage. Preferably with specializing in relevant field research practice experience and having experience teaching in tertiary level. Has served in the position of Professor (PT5) for not less than three (3) years and active in teaching, research, academic publications, contributions in refereed journals, administration, supervision of Master and Doctorate Thesis level, service to the community, has the ability to upgrade the reputation in publishing academic books which recognized and received quality of citations among international academia and had passed the evaluation made by the internal and external panel for this post.

 

Has an international reputation through the production of academic writings published in refereed journals or contributed chapters in academic books and has produced and published numerous academic books and has received recognition and quality of citations among international academia as presenters of papers and particularly in the area of specialization. Must be progressive and being high capacity in the academic management and administration in contributing to the stability of integrity in tertiary institutions levels. Meeting the evaluation of the professional performance based on Research and Publications, Teaching and Supervision, Service to the Community and Clinical and Professional. Has the ability to continuously pursuing research activity in any tertiary level institutions and to provide leadership and mentoring to junior academicians’ in faculty especially in research.

 

FOR PT3 SALARY

Applicants must have Ph.D degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a university or higher institution recognized by the government and leading and renowned universities or higher institutions as an advantage. Preferably with research practice experience and having experience teaching in tertiary level.

For the post of Senior Assistant Professor at least has served in the position of Assistant Professor (PT2) for not less than seven (7) years or has served for not less than four (4) years in the position of Assistant Professor (PT2A) or has served in the post of Senior Assistant Professor in an appropriate period of time years. Active in teaching, research, academic publications, contributions in refereed journals, administration, supervision of Master and/or Doctorate Thesis level, service to the community and had passed the evaluation made by the internal and external panel for this post. Experienced in supervising at least Master Thesis as an advantage.

Has an excellence record. Has an international reputation through the production of academic writings published in refereed journals or contributed chapters in academic books and has produced and published numerous academic books or has produced working papers in seminars / conferences regionally or internationally and has received recognition and quality of citations among international academia as presenters of papers and particularly in the area of specialization. Meeting the evaluation of the professional performance based on Research and Publications, Teaching and Supervision, Service to the Community or Clinical and Professional. In addition to the academic excellence, high production capacity in the administration of the faculty or centre level and has served at least as Dean/Director or Deputy Dean/Director are also taken into account. Has the ability to continuously pursuing research activity in any tertiary level institutions.
